... is it the higher ghz that makes it work faster? a 3.46 ghz is a better computer than one with a 2.0 ghz, right? got old school dial up service so need a faster computer to off set the service i guess. so is the ghz the most important spec for my quicker processing wants and needs ? thanks!

more memory will allow more processing

if you put 512MB in your 3.46GHz, it may run decently... but put 2GIG of RAM in your 2.0GHz and itll surpass the 3.46 by leaps and bounds

when data is getting processed, it goes to memory first -- then to the CPU. The more data you can hold temporarily (memory), the more the processor can process.

Its not always about speed... its about efficiency. Thats why Intel came out with these Core 2 chips - they are more efficient then a Pentium D 3.46GHz despite being half the speed

No processor will affect your dial-up bottleneck.

Nope, that is 100% due to your dial up bottleneck & there's no way around it unless you move to DSL or Cable.

Dump the dial up, the net is a different world on high speed.
